Greg R. Henderson, 60, of Kearney, died Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at his home.

Memorial services will be 2:00 pm, February 15, 2019. A time to visit with the family will follow until 4:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the family for Greg’s grandson’s education.

Greg was born January 3, 1959 in Cozad to Ross and Josephine (Cagler) Henderson. He grew up in Lexington and graduated from Lexington High School in 1977. He attended Colorado State University.



Greg married Cathy Bisbal on April 11, 1987 in Santa Anna, California. They lived in Mission Viejo, California. They moved to Kearney in 2005. Greg worked as the quality insurance manager at Nebraska Aluminum Castings in Hastings.


Greg was a football player in his high school and college days. After a neck injury, and starting a family, he turned to coaching soccer. He was an outstanding soccer coach, and was a coach and mentor to hundreds of girls, including his daughter, for over 12 years.

He was an extremely dedicated and loyal man. Greg doted on his wife, Cathy, and their only daughter, Jessica. He cherished his sisters. He put his family above all else. He was a gentle soul, dependable, hardworking, and honest. Greg had many friends, all of whom he would do anything for. He will be sorely missed by everyone who had the pleasure to know him. Greg enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, and being outdoors.

Greg is survived by his daughter, Jessica Henderson-Byrd and husband Phillip of Kearney; sisters, Linda Mackessy of Sacramento, CA, Michelle Poppert-Poss and husband Roger, Jody Poppert-Foust and husband Joe, Kim Poppert-Davis and husband Al all of North Platte, NE; grandsons, Aiden, Jaxon, Gavin, and Christian Byrd of Kearney, step-father, Bob Poppert of North Platte, Ne, best friend Bob Wiese and wife Kim, of Wichita, Kansas.

Greg was preceded in death by his wife Cathy, and his parents.
